KTET Category-Wise Eligibility & Exam Pattern
The KTET is divided into four distinct categories based on the level of schooling. Each category has a specific syllabus and eligibility criteria.
Category 1: Lower Primary Classes (Classes 1–5)
Designed for those aiming to teach the youngest learners.
- Eligibility: Higher Secondary (10+2) with at least 45% marks and a TTC/D.El.Ed/D.Ed qualification.
- Pattern: 150 Questions | 150 Minutes.
- Subjects: Child Development & Pedagogy (30), Mathematics (30), Environmental Studies (30), Language I (30), Language II (30).
Category 2: Upper Primary Classes (Classes 6–8)
- Eligibility: Graduation + B.Ed/TTC/D.El.Ed OR Higher Secondary + 4-year B.El.Ed.
- Pattern: 150 Marks.
- Subjects: Child Development (30), Language I (30), Language II (30), and Subject-specific (Science & Maths or Social Science) (60).
Category 3: High School Classes (Classes 9–10)
- Eligibility: Graduation with 45% marks and a B.Ed degree in the relevant subject.
- Pattern: Focuses heavily on the candidate's core subject.
- Subjects: Adolescent Psychology (40), Language (30), Subject-specific Content & Pedagogy (80).
Category 4: Language & Specialist Teachers
This category is for Language teachers (Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu), Art & Craft, and Physical Education teachers.
- Eligibility: Qualifications as per the Kerala Education Rules (KER).
Qualifying Marks: The 2026 Cut-off (Expected)
- General Category: 60% (90 out of 150 marks)
- SC/ST/OBC/PH: 55% (82 out of 150 marks)
- OEC Candidates: Typically receive a 3% relaxation in specific categories.
Note: There is no negative marking in KTET, which means candidates should attempt all 150 questions to maximize their chances.

4. Final Printout: Ensure you save the "Confirmation Page," as it contains the Application ID required for downloading the Hall Ticket.
